The preliminary results of the autopsy revealed that the cause of death of the male victim located 
at the structure fire on Mystic Road was attributed to smoke inhalation. 

Positive identification of the victim has not been confirmed due to the injuries sustained in the 
fire.  Once the identity is determined the next of kin will be notified. 

Investigators with the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms, along 
with the State Fire Marshal and Rapid City Police Department Evidence Technicians, have 
completed the scene investigation. It appears as though a propane leak may have caused an 
explosion and subsequent fire.   

The Hill City Fire Department responded and assisted during the initial call.    

More information will be made available as the investigation continues.
