NEWS RELEASE

The discharge of fireworks within and around the boundaries of the Black Hills 
Fire Protection District is illegal.  The Pennington County Sheriff’s Office will be 
patrolling and enforcing reported violations in this area.

Fireworks are permitted to be discharged outside the boundaries of 
municipalities in Pennington County from June 27 through July 5, 2009.  This 
should be done in a safe manner, on the individual’s own property or with the 
permission of the landowner.  All litter created must be cleaned up from the 
discharge of fireworks. 

It is unlawful for anyone to discharge fireworks from or at another motor vehicle 
or on a roadway which would impede or disrupt the flow of traffic.

Again, this pertains to unincorporated areas of Pennington County outside of the 
Black Hills Fire Protection District.  If you live within the boundaries of a 
municipality, you must follow those local ordinances.
