General Information
- I need to get my husband/wife/friend/son/daughter into Detox. How do I do that?
Contact CCADP and ask to speak with someone regarding admission procedures.

- I want to commit my husband/wife/friend/son/daughter. What do I do?
Physically come to CCADP, ask for assistance in completing an Emergency Commitment application.
An administrator will screen for appropriateness and eligibility.

- How do I find out if somebody is staying there?
Due to confidentiality, we are not able to verify if someone is here or not without a
signed Release of Information from the client. Our practice is to take a message and if that person
is here, give them the message. It will be the client's responsibility to return the call.
- How do I have someone brought in?
First, contact CCADP to see if a bed is available. You can encourage the individual to
come voluntarily. If it is an emergency, complete an emergency commitment application and submit to the
designated administrator at CCADP for approval.
You may also call law enforcement officials if someone is a danger to self or others.

- How long are people kept there?
Until they no longer meet the criteria for intoxication, incapacitation, or danger to
self or others.

- How do I know if my husband/wife/friend/son/daughter is an alcoholic/Meth addict?
The best way is to have them complete a chemical dependency evaluation by a certified
chemical dependency counselor or other qualified professional.

- What are the physiological signs and symptoms of methamphetamine use?
Dilated pupils, profuse sweating, chills, high blood pressure, increased heart rate,
chest pain, palpitations, slow heart rate, elevated temperature, suppressed appetite, teeth grinding,
insomnia or little need for sleep, tremors, seizures, confusion, respiratory, and depression.

- How many people come through Detox in a week/month?
Week = 50
Month = 200
- Where do I go if I'm withdrawing from opiates/tranquilizers?
Currently City/County Alcohol and Drug Programs cannot take clients that are
withdrawing from opiates, painkillers, or tranquilizers. We refer these clients to the hospital
for withdraw.
- What is "Social Setting Detox"?
It is an organized service that is delivered by appropriately trained staff, which
provides 24-hour supervision, observation, and support for clients who are intoxicated or experiencing
withdrawal. CCADP does have staff to supervise self-administered medications for the management of
withdrawal. CCADP does rely on established clinical protocols to identify clients who are in need
of medical services beyond the capacity of the facility and transfers clients to more appropriate
levels of care.
- What is subsistence?
It is monies that are paid by the client toward the cost of a particular service.
- Is Meth really the worst drug that there is now?
There is no "worst drug." Each person can react to drugs differently depending on
their chemistry.

- Can you ever recover from use of Meth?
Yes. Addiction is not curable but is treatable.
- Is Meth addiction different from other addictions?
Meth can have profound effects on the neurological system.

- How many beds are there?
City/County Alcohol and Drug Programs have 60 residential beds. Friendship House
has 30 residential beds.
- Do you have a Detox bed available?
To determine if we have an opening please call: (605)394-6128 ext 200.
- How long do I have to stay in Detox?
When appropriate, a client is assessed by a chemical dependency counselor within
24 hours of admission. Continued Service Reviews are completed every 48 hours to determine whether
or not there are criteria for continued stay or discharge. A typical detox stay, without complications,
ranges from 24 to 48 hours.

- Why do Detox clients have to wear pajamas?
This helps the staff better identify and monitor those individuals that are detoxifying from alcohol/drug use.

Treatment
- My husband/wife/friend/son/daughter needs to get into treatment. What do I do?
The state of South Dakota requires an Alcohol and Drug Evaluation before entering into a
program. The person needing to get into treatment must come to our office to make an appointment for the
evaluation. By the end of the evaluation, the counselor will recommend appropriate services. If it is
recommended to attend City/County Alcohol and Drug Programs, the Treatment and Continued Care Coordinator
will contact the client to set up a treatment start date. Before a start date can be given, a current
skin TB test would be required.

- The court in another state has ordered me to do treatment.
Can I do it here?
The state of South Dakota requires an Alcohol and Drug Evaluation be done by a
South Dakota facility before entering into a program. The person needing to get into treatment
would need to come to our office to make an appointment.

- What kind of treatment programs do you offer?
What is the cost for treatment?
We offer Outpatient Treatment, Residential Treatment, Continued Care, DUI Class,
Anger Management, and Corrective Thinking.

DUI Class
- How do I sign up for a DUI class?
You would need to come into the office during regular business hours to pre-register for the class.
At that time our front desk staff would explain the dates and times of the class. The $150.00 fee
would need to be paid for by the day before the class that you would chose.
- I need 20 hours of DUI classes for another state. How do I do the class here?
You would need to check with what state is requiring you to complete this class and explain to them that South
Dakota only requires a 12-hour DUI Class. If the other state approves our class then you would need to come
into the office during regular business hours to pre-register for the class. At that time our front desk staff
would explain the dates and times of the class. The $150.00 fee would need to be paid for by the day before
the class that you would chose.

Assessment
- My husband/wife/friend/son/daughter is in jail and he/she needs to get
an assessment. How do I do that?
We cannot make an appointment for an assessment from a friend or family member while they are incarcerated.
If an inmate needs an evaluation, a Court Services Officer, Attorney, Jail Staff or the client themselves
need to contact us to make an appointment for the evaluation.
- How do I schedule an evaluation/assessment?
You would need to come into our office during regular business hours and fill out paperwork to make an
appointment. At that time, you will be given the written part of the assessment to take with you to fill
out. On the day of the appointment, you would return with the paperwork completely filled out and then
meet with the assigned counselor.
- What do I need to bring to my assessment appointment?
You would bring in the written part of the assessment that you were given on the day that you made the
appointment. You would also bring any documentation of household income to see if you qualify for
financial assistance. (Preferred is last 2 months of pay stubs or most recent income tax return.)
- Do you take insurance?
It would be the client's responsibility to pay for the services and then submit to their insurance
company on their own. We can provide any documentation the client may need to submit to their
insurance company.
- How do I qualify for funding for services?
Qualifying for state assistance depends on how many are in your household. See table below:

- How do I sign up for Corrective Thinking / Anger Management class?
Come into the office during regular business hours to pre-register for the class. This will take about
5 minutes. At that time our front desk staff explains the dates and times of the class. The cost for
the class is $250.00. $150.00 of the fee needs to be paid before you can start the class and
the remainder paid by the 6th class.

- I missed my 24/7 program. What can I do?
Call your Court Service Officer, Attorney or Judge as soon as possible and show up at the next time 24/7 is open.

- How long is Continued Care?
Continued Care is Phase Two of treatment, which generally last 12 to 24 weeks depending on client's needs.

- How is your agency staffed?
We have a Medical Director, Agency Director, Assistant Director, Clinical Supervisor, Certified
Chemical Dependency Counselors, EMT /Technicians, Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse,
and Administrative staff.
- Can I do community service work at your agency?
We do have opportunities for community service. Please contact the Tech Desk between the hours
of 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
- How can I volunteer?
Call administration to set up an appointment to discuss process.
