Our Female Meth program is conducted in concert with the DOC and is actually the third in a four-phase program designed to provide 18 months of methamphetamine specific treatment to female clients coming from the South Dakota Women's Prison (SDWP). Phases I and II occur at the SDWP in Pierre and consist of assessment and intensive treatment in a therapeutic community outside the actual prison.
Phase III of the Intensive Methamphetamine Treatment Program began at CCADP in November of 2006. Phase III consists of case management services provided to female clients who come to use from the SDWP in Pierre. They reside at CCADP for 3 months while transitioning from a therapeutic community at the SDWP. As their primary counselor, I complete a treatment plan with the client to address ongoing support and in an effort to maintain the progress they made while in treatment and translate these skills into daily living. I work in close contact with the clients' parole officers and meet monthly with them to monitor progress. The clients attend a minimum of 5 hours of weekly programming while residing at CCADP in addition to a minimum of 3 12 step meetings and weekly individual sessions with myself. The programs they attend include Anger Management, Commitment to Change (corrective thinking), Step Study and Living Sober groups, Women's Issues Group, and Safer Sex Education provided through Volunteers of America. The clients also gain employment and research housing options prior to completing Phase III. Phase IV ensures that they complete 6 months of Continued Care after they are discharged.
By the time these clients leave our facility and transition into Phase IV independent living, the goal is to have them involved in community support to include individual counseling, employment and education, 12 step attendance and sponsorship. The overall goal of this program is to provide these clients with a structured setting in which to develop support and practice the skills they learned in treatment to lessen the likelihood of relapse and facilitate a smooth transition into independent living.
