Don Holloway became Sheriff of Pennington County in January 1983 and is currently serving his 7th four-year term, making him the longest serving Sheriff in Pennington County history. Prior to taking office as Sheriff in 1983, he was the Court Administrator for the Seventh Judicial Circuit Court from 1980-1982 and was a Deputy Sheriff/Chief Deputy from 1968-1980.
He received his B.S. degree from Black Hills State University where he majored in Sociology and Psychology. He also received an A.A. degree from the University of South Dakota where he majored in Criminal Justice.
He is a member of the National Sheriffs’ Association and has served two terms as President of the South Dakota Sheriffs’ Association. He is a member of several local committees and organizations, including the Chamber of Commerce and serves as a community representative on the Minneluzahan Senior Center’s Board of Directors, and for Working Against Violence, Inc.
As Sheriff of Pennington County, Don oversees the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office law enforcement division, the Pennington County Jail, the Western South Dakota Juvenile Services Center, and the City/County Alcohol and Drug Program. He is also appointed as the County Coroner.
He has three grown children and five grandchildren. In his spare time, Don enjoys spending time with his grandchildren, boating and going to baseball games.
