The Pennington County Sheriff's Office Senior Volunteer Program was created in 1996 by Sheriff Don Holloway. Since that time, we have been fortunate to have many senior citizens donate their valuable time and talents to us by becoming a part of the program. The Pennington County Sheriff's Office provides a variety of tasks and duties for senior citizens who are looking to become a volunteer member of our organization.
The Senior Volunteer Coordinator is Melissa Stetson. Melissa is responsible for hiring and coordination of all the volunteer assignments. She works under Sheriff Holloway in coordinating the volunteer activities.
GREETERS:
Location: The Greeter position is located on the main floor at the Public Safety Building. There is a greeting desk located directly across from the Sheriff's Office civil window. Although a greeter may spend the majority of his/her time at the greeter desk, there may be jobs assigned that take him/her away from the desk for short periods.
Duties: Greeters direct the public to the correct office, person, or building. Greeters assist the public in applying for concealed weapons permits. When not busy with these tasks, Greeters do filing, file preparation, and various tasks usually of a clerical nature.
Hours: The hours for greeters are Monday through Friday mornings from 8 a.m. - 12 noon or afternoons from 12 noon - 4 p.m.
TRAFFIC:
Location: Traffic volunteers spend most of their time in a marked PCSO vehicle patrolling Pennington County. Traffic volunteers work in teams of two.
Duties: Extra patrol, Hills Patrol, Special Projects as well as other tasks as assigned by the Patrol Sergeant or Volunteer Coordinator. The main objective of the traffic volunteers is to provide a higher visibility for the Sheriff's Office in the county by patrolling areas as directed.
Hours: Traffic volunteers work the same shifts as greeters. Monday through Friday mornings from 8 a.m. - 12 noon or afternoons from 12 noon - 4 p.m.
RESEARCH/DATA ENTRY:
Location: Civil and Warrants are located on the first floor of the Public Safety Building.
Duties: The duties of researchers in both civil and warrants is to find current addresses of persons wanted on warrants or civil papers. There are also positions for basic computer data entry, state entry of warrants, as well as calling persons who are wanted on warrants to come in voluntarily.
Hours: Traffic volunteers work the same shifts as greeters. Monday through Friday mornings from 8 a.m. - 12 noon or afternoons from 12 noon - 4 p.m.
SPECIAL PROJECTS:
Location: Varies depending on assignment.
Duties: Some of the special projects that our volunteers assist with include tape erasing, calibration of PBT machines, and any other one time special project that may arise.
