Jeff Bowling
Employee of the Month - October, 2008
Jeff Bowling has been a Correctional Officer for the Western SD Juvenile Services Center since September 18, 2000.
Jeff was selected based on this nomination:
"Jeff has been a dedicated employee of JSC for eight years. Throughout this time he has always maintained a professional and positive attitude and demeanor in ordinary as well as extremely trying circumstances. Through his actions as a correctional officer, he has prevented harm to detainees and damage to the facility. He is always open-minded and accepting of individuals and their differences. He gets along with detainees and staff alike. He is always pleasant and friendly toward everyone. He is always willing to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. He takes time to listen to detainees who need to talk. His unfailing sense of humor is an inspiration to all.
Jeff routinely goes beyond expectations. In addition to his regular duties, he computes and manages time records for detainees in the in-house work program. He has created a system for documentation for orientations and room check-in completion. He does more than his share of shift coverage, and that without complaint. He was among the first officers to test the new electronic documentation devices, completing documentation both manually and electronically until exclusive pipe use was fully implemented.
Jeff continually strives to expand his skills. He has recently completed training as a booking officer and works hard to ensure he understands all the aspects of this position and all of the skills required.
Jeff also strives to improve the efficiency of procedures at JSC. He frequently submits suggestions for improvements. He has developed programs for organizing data. He will help any time anyone needs a spreadsheet designed or implemented
Jeff has certainly proven himself an asset to JSC and the Pennington County Sheriff's Department."
