| Objective: The detainees will learn South
Dakota laws, rules and policies and how they relate to juveniles' actions in the community. This is done by
role play, class discussion, and case studies. Since the law touches everyone's lives each day, it is
important for people of all ages to have understanding of the law. Ways in which the law touches our lives
change as we grow older with the age of eighteen being a crucial milestone. |

| Skills Acquired: The juvenile will be able
to learn the rights and responsibilities of being a young adult in South Dakota. By learning the law and
the consequences, the juvenile will be able to make better choices in the future. Detainees will gain the
knowledge of how to follow the rules, policies, and laws in South Dakota, how to handle school conflict,
how to handle abuse, how to handle consumer rights, and what the different types of crimes are and their
penalties. |
