SOUTH DAKOTA FACTS:
Not all South Dakota tribes lived in tipis. The Arikara and Mandans lived in large lodges
along the Missouri in Central South Dakota. Floors to these lodges were dug below ground
level and the walls consisted of heavy posts covered with sod.
