SOUTH DAKOTA FACTS:
Born in 1884, Oscar Micheaux, whose star is on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, farmed
close to 1000 acres of land near Winner, SD. After a drought, his crops failed and he lost
his land.
Mr. Micheaux wrote books about his life in South Dakota which he evenutally made into movies. In 1919, he
started a film company becoming the first African American to make a movie in the U.S.
He made over 31 movies before he died in 1951.

| A Message from the Commander |
| |
| Welcome to our Website! |
| The Western South Dakota Juvenile Services Center is proud to share information about
our operation. |
| Parents: |
We hope you will be able to obtain answers to the questions you may have
regarding your child's stay with us. As a point of information, any child brought to
this facility must have legal charges. |
| Holding Authorities: |
The goal of our Website is to provide a snapshot of the programming the WSDJSC offers as we meet your
objective to place a juvenile in a safe facility. Security levels are determined based on a complete
custody classification system. |
| Community Members: |
We just wanted an opportunity to share with you the great work of County Employees and perhaps
answer any questions you may have of this facility. |
| Employment Seekers: |
This may be the place for you! |
|
Thank you and enjoy the Website,
Carla Leveque, Commander
